Our History
The Ngwa nation represents one of the largest, most industrious, and historically distinct sub-groups of the Igbo ethnic nation in Abia State, Southeastern Nigeria. Rooted in the rich agricultural, commercial, and cultural traditions of Eastern Ngwaland, our ancestors built a society grounded in communal solidarity (Nwanneadi), fierce independence, and deep respect for justice (Egbe Biri, Ugo Biri). Historically renowned for their mastery of commerce, farming, and unique artistic expressions—from the powerful beats of the Ikoro to the sacred displays of Ekpe—the Ngwa people have consistently served as a cornerstone of Abia State's economic and cultural life.
Ngwa Day was established as a living bridge between this historic legacy and our collective future. What began as a regional gathering has evolved into a global movement—uniting Ngwa communities across Aba, greater Abia State, and the worldwide diaspora. It stands as an annual reaffirmation of our identity: a dedicated space to honor our ancestors, celebrate our traditions, and channel our collective strength toward modern community development and youth empowerment.
